In A World of Graphics Is Content Still King?
I’ve been feeling a bit jaded by the whole blog thing.
I’ve actually been feeling a bit jaded about the whole internet thing. As I’ve been trying to learn how to get my content out there for a wider audience, it has been becoming clearer and clearer that the internet is one huge grift.
I have read what feels like a million posts about starting a blog and the number one thing all these helpful posts say is that you need to be able to be helpful, provide a service or advice and then they will provide me with a “freebie” mini-course, printable whatever.
Well I can tell you I’ve done about 10 mini-courses now and they are all the same and I am just another sucker. Here it is in a nutshell:
- Start your blog – it’s SUPER easy just click this link and set up super affordable Bluehost, which includes WordPress for free and POOF start writing.
- Offer a freebie – a printable, a mini course whatever just make sure you get that email address because #3…
- Build a mailing list
- SELL SELL SELL!
So this sounds super awesome right?!
Except all those mini-courses are just a lead to get you to buy their $300 course, and with all the mini-courses being almost identical, how do you pick one if you are willing to spend the $300-$1000???
How do you know that once you spend that money to learn you aren’t just told you need to buy something else to make this work?
So many questions.
I don’t want to sell you a course, I don’t create printables (yet). I don’t want to create a “funnel” so you keep buying stuff from me in the hopes that your life will somehow improve.
I set up affiliate links but ONLY to the products and services I’ve used and love. So this begs the question. Can an honest person still make money blogging on the internet? Will people read what I have to say if I don’t make my website super fancy? Are people that shallow and distracted that if my blog doesn’t have fancy pictures and graphics no one cares what the content is?
I want to help people improve their life by improving minds, bodies, spirits, and wallets. If you choose to click a link and I make a bit of extra money that’s just a bonus to me and I thank you.
Is content king?
If the content is AMAZING but the website is boring, will people stick around or does it need all the bells and whistles?
We shall see.
P.s As always don’t forget to go with the flow
